1st US National Kiteboard Racing Championship

1st US National Kiteboard Racing Championship
July 25-29, 2007

WHO: The world’s top pro kiteboarders and regional riders

WHAT: Course Racing on Kiteboards

WHEN: July 25, 26, 27

WHERE: Crissy Field, San Francisco, California

Title Sponsor: Wells Fargo Bank

The Wells Fargo US Kiteboard Racing Championship will be held at Crissy Field in San Francisco California on July 25, 26 and 27. The St. Francis Yacht Club will be the organizing authority hosting the event in conjunction with Crissy Kite Days and the Big Air Wind Jam. The event organizers expect to host 60 to 70 Professional Kiteboarders from around the world.

Daily attendance is estimated to be several thousand spectators and media to see the cutting edge of kiteboard racing. Each race takes 10-20 minutes and includes dozens of riders on a course similar to the type used in sailboat racing. Racing will begin each day at Noon and will be visible from the Crissy Field Beach and along the San Francisco City front.

The “Cabrinha Race Series” hosted by the St. Francis Yacht Club is in its 3rd season and regularly draws over 30 kiteboarders to the bi-weekly event. “Course Racing is beginning to have a huge influence on the sport of kiteboarding” said John Gomes, the developer of the race series and member at the St. Francis. “Riders are looking for alternatives to the established freestyle contest format. Racing expands the scope of the sport and allows a broader range of riders to participate”.
